How To Change Your Cars Oil

By Brad Schnirring

To change your motor oil on your car, and to also make sure that you will get the best gas mileage, and also performance from your vehicles engine. first check to see which weight of motor oil your car is designed to use. you will find this information either under the hood or in your cars manual after this you will need to then check which size, and type, of oil filter your vehicle takes. after you have determined these things, run to your local auto parts store, and pick up the motor oil, that your vehicle needs. and the correct motor oil filter for your car.

Next you will need to find as close to a level spot, as you can. to park your car, in order to change the motor oil in you vehicle. first off, always make sure your emergency brake is engaged on your car! second you will need to gather the necessary tools, which will include a 15mm socket wrench, and a filter wrench which can be found at your local auto parts store, and a drop bucket for the used old oil. remember to always dispose of old used waste motor oil, and oil filters properly! its a good idea to keep some paper towels, or shop rags, around because it can get a little messy.

Now that you are parked on a level area. if you do not have enough clearance under the vehicle, you will have to jack it up to access the oil plug, and filter. remember always use sturdy jack stands, and the parking brake, when going under the car. Now you will find the oil plug, which is a 15mm bolt. at the back, or on the side of the oil reservoir, directly under the engine. Once you have located, this release the bolt, and place the drop bucket under the hole, to catch the old used oil.

Now, while the old oil is draining into the drop bucket. you will find the oil filter, which is usually right beside the oil drain hole. Once you find the oil filter, remove it using the filter wrench. Now, fill the new filter up with new oil, to prime it. and screw it back in, taking care not to over tighten the oil filter. Then, once the old used waste oil is done draining from your cars engine. replace the motor oil drain plug bolt, back into the motor oil drain hole. Once you have completed this step, and you have also removed the used waste motor oil in the drop bucket, you can let the jack down, and then you can pop the hood.

Now, you will take your new oil, and begin to fill the tank back up. Never over fill your engine with motor oil, always make sure it is in the operating range on the dipstick. If you properly maintain your vehicle. Which includes regular oil changes you will get a car that lasts longer, performs better, and gets better gas mileage
